It’s hard to imagine two worlds that could be further apart – from the constant threat of danger and starvation in a refugee camp for people escaping Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge regime, to the bright offices of one of Australia’s leading creative agencies in Walsh Bay, overlooking beautiful Sydney Harbour.

But the hardworking team at Clemenger BBDO are reaching out to bridge that gap, through their work with Cindy Chen and the women of Amok Sisters.

Amok Sisters is a catering company and social enterprise that’s creating social and economic opportunities for Cambodian women in south west Sydney. It provides a safe and supported environment where women can share their cooking skills while also learning about food handling and small business management.

The enterprise founder, Cindy had achieved great progress on her own – but she knew she needed specialised support to help Amok flourish and make sure valuable opportunities weren’t being missed. While she has things covered in the kitchen, Cindy says, “I tried to build a website! But I couldn’t, and it cost too much money. It costs, really, a few thousand dollars to build a really good website like the one we have now.”

Helping seize those opportunities and create brighter futures for business is where Clemenger BBDO comes in. After making contact with Cindy through the Global Sisters ‘Sister Pitch’ in November 2018, Senior Account Manager Isabella Timar and her team leapt into action, organising professional food styling and a fabulous photo shoot.

The team has since thrown themselves into the task of bringing together cues from Cindy’s Cambodian heritage, Amok’s existing branding and the style of the photoshoot, to create a whole new website, online identity and improved ordering system for Amok.

And having now sampled their delicious and vibrant foods, Clemenger is also using Amok for their corporate catering!

Bit by bit, whatever I need, through Global Sisters and Clemenger, they just make it happen!

It’s not just Cindy and her network of women that have benefitted though – Isabella’s team say they’re thrilled to have been involved and have relished the opportunity to contribute to Amok’s success.
